SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Fabian Gutierrez has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Dec. 18-23. The selection is made by the league office.

Gutierrez picked up his first career win over a ranked opponent in the dual with fifth-ranked Virginia Tech on Dec. 21. The Commerce City, Colorado, native scored an 8-5 decision over No. 14 Joey Prata at 125 pounds. After a quiet first period, Gutierrez recorded a takedown and four back points to take the lead and the win in the first bout of the dual. The Hokies would take the dual 29-3.

The weekly award is the second of Gutierrez’s career.

The Mocs will now enjoy a few days of holiday break before hosting the 2020 Southern Scuffle, presented by Compound Sportswear, on Jan. 1-2.
