SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Le’Jzae Davidson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week presented by GEICO for games played Dec. 17-23 after leading the Paladins to the FAU Holiday Classic title. The award is selected by the league office.
The guard began the week by scoring a game-high 17 points and pulling down seven rebounds, all defensive, in a 69-63 win at host Florida Atlantic. The native of Nashville, Tennessee, then scored a game-high and season-high 24 points and added five rebounds in a 63-48 win over Saint Joseph’s a day later that gave the Paladins the tournament title. She shot 46.7 percent against the Hawks, finishing 7-for-15 from the floor, including 7-for-12 (58.3 percent), from 3-point range. Davidson’s seven made 3s were a career-high, one short of tying the program’s single-game record. The senior also converted on all seven of her free-throw attempts on the week.
The preseason all-conference selection leads the league in 3-point field goals per game (3.4).
Furman (8-4) returns home for four straight, hosting Elon on Dec. 30 and Newberry on Jan. 2 before beginning conference play against Mercer (Jan. 9) and Samford (Jan. 11).
Also nominated: Micah Scheetz (ETSU), Shannon Titus (Mercer), Te’ja Twitty (UNC Greensboro), Katie Allen (Samford), Jewel Smalls (Western Carolina) and Chloe Wanink (Wofford).
