SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU redshirt senior Jeromy Rodriguez was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for all contests from Dec. 17-23 after helping the Bucs to wins over LSU and Cleveland State. The award is selected by the league office.

Rodriguez nearly averaged a double-double on the week, scoring 13.0 points and pulling down 9.0 rebounds per contest. He shot 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from the floor and averaged 3.5 assists per game.

The forward from Santiago, Dominican Republic, opened his week Wednesday with 12 points, a team-best 10 rebounds and five assists in ETSU’s 74-63 win at LSU, which was the Bucs’ third over a Power 5 opponent in the Steve Forbes era. ETSU held the Tigers 22 points below their season average in snapping LSU’s 19-game nonconference home winning streak. Rodriguez was 6-for-9 from the field.

Three days later, Rodriguez scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in ETSU’s 80-55 home win over Cleveland State, going 4-for-7 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. The win pushed the Bucs’ record to 11-2, giving them their best start to a season since the 1990-91 squad opened 14-1.

ETSU (11-2, 1-0 SoCon) hosts Mars Hill on Sunday before returning to league play for good Jan. 1 when it welcomes Wofford (8-5, 0-0) for a crucial early matchup.

Other nominees: Kaiden Rice (The Citadel), Jordan Lyons (Furman), James Dickey (UNC Greensboro), Brandon Austin (Samford), Matt Ryan (Chattanooga), Travis Evee (VMI), Mason Faulkner (Western Carolina) and Storm Murphy (Wofford).
