SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women’s basketball player Lauren LaPlant has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Dec. 18-23. The selection is made by the league office.
After missing the entire 2018-19 season due to injury, LaPlant has been a key contributor for the Catamounts this season. The guard from Asheboro, North Carolina, is the team’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging 10.5 points per game. LaPlant averaged 13 points per game last week as she notched 10 points against Tennessee Tech before pouring in 16 points with four three-pointers versus Winthrop.
LaPlant recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.917 grade point average and a degree in chemistry. She has been accepted into graduate school at Western Carolina, which will begin in January.
The Catamounts return to the court on Dec. 30 when they travel to face the College of Charleston at 6:30 p.m.
