SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tierra Hodges has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week presented by GEICO for games played Dec. 3-9. The award is selected by the league office.
The guard/forward began the week with a game-high and career-high 21 points on a career-best 9-of-12 shooting in a 62-55 win over Georgia State on Dec. 5. She also pulled down eight rebounds in the home win. At Richmond three days later, the redshirt junior finished 7-for-10 from the floor, scoring 16 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, both game highs, in a 70-69 victory. Hodges scored six points and pulled down seven rebounds in the fourth quarter alone, helping propel Furman to the narrow win. The double-double against the Spiders was the fourth of the year for the Covington, Georgia, native.
Hodges is second in the league in rebounding, averaging 8.7 per contest.
Furman (6-3), which has won three in a row, plays at Georgia on Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Paladins’ lone contest of the week.
