SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Carlos Dotson was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for all contests from Dec. 3-9 after posting two double-doubles in a 2-0 week. The award is selected by the league office.
Dotson helped the Catamounts to wins over Chattanooga and UNC Asheville, logging his third and fourth double-doubles of the season and shooting a staggering 94.4 percent from the floor (17-for-18) for the week. He averaged 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in the two contests.
The senior from Riverdale, Maryland, opened his week with a season-high 21 points and 12 rebounds in the Catamounts’ 87-77 win over Chattanooga on Dec. 3 as Western Carolina won its league opener for just the second time since 2014-15. He was 10-for-11 from the floor in the contest.
Dotson followed that up with 16 points and 11 boards in a 78-77 win over mountain rival UNC Asheville on Saturday, going 7-for-7 from the field and adding three assists and a steal as the Catamounts improved to 7-2 on the season, their best start since opening the 2009-10 season 10-1 and matching their win total from all of last year. WCU has won five straight contests for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign.
Western Carolina is back in action Dec. 18 at No. 23 Xavier in a contest that will air of Fox Sports 1.
