Emily Zipay named student-athlete of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women’s soccer player Emily Zipay has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition between Oct. 16-22.

Zipay was involved in three of the Catamounts’ five goals in their two matches last week. The Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native provided the assist on Emily Threatt’s game-winning goal on Oct. 18 as they defeated The Citadel 1-0. Zipay also played a part in two of the Catamounts’ four goals in the 4-1 win over Mercer on Oct. 20. She assisted the opening goal and bagged one of her own in the fifth minute. 

Zipay is a biology major with a pre-health professional concentration and a minor in psychology. The senior currently holds a 4.0 grade point average.

Western Carolina will hit the road next to face UNC Greensboro on Oct. 25, with opening kick set for 7 p.m.
