Furman rolls to win over Georgia State

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After losing the doubles point, the Furman women's tennis team rallied to claim five singles points, beating Georgia State, 5-2, Monday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

Damira Muminovic and Eva Chivu downed freshman Julia Adams and senior Katty Weymouth, 6-1, at flight two doubles to open the match.  Paladin rookie Madison Dillon and sophomore Carol Elizabeth Kerman  beat Anastasia Grosheva and Lara Vovk, 6-3, at flight three to even the slate, setting up a decisive flight one match, where Daniela Ramirez and Andreea Stanescu held on to top freshman Taylor Melville and junior Katarina Kozarov, 7-5.

The Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 as Ramirez recorded a 6-2, 6-2 advantage over Weymouth at flight two singles, but Furman rallied to win the remaining five matches to claim the victory.  Kozarov, who is ranked 30th nationally, beat Chivu, 6-1, 7-5, at flight one, and Melville held off Muminovic, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0, at flight three.  In the number four contest, Adams came from behind to defeat Stanescu, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and Dillon bested Vovk, 6-3, 6-3.  At flight six, Kerman posted a 7-6(3), 6-2 win versus Grosheva.

Furman (2-0) will play host to Charleston Southern on Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
