DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mercer senior wide receiver Marquise Irvin will play in the 2019 edition of the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl on Sunday, Jan. 13, at Bethune-Cookman’s Daytona Beach Stadium.
Kickoff for the fourth-annual college all-star game is slated for 10 a.m. The game will be streamed live online via FloFootball. Irvin will participate in team practices, meetings and potential interviews with professional scouts during the two days prior to the Tropical Bowl.
Irvin capped a standout collegiate career with a program record 814 receiving yards on 54 receptions this fall. The Huntsville, Ala., native caught five touchdowns and hauled in 70-plus receiving yards in seven of Mercer’s 11 games. A three-time All-Southern Conference selection, Irvin owns nearly every receiving record in school history, including career receptions (175), yards (2,325) and touchdowns (18).
Irvin is the third Mercer senior invited to play in a college all-star game this winter; punter Matt Shiel and kicker Cole Fisher played in the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Dec. 9.
About the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl
The SPIRAL Tropical Bowl is a premier FBS Division I level College Football All Star Game played in Daytona Beach, Florida annually in mid-January. The SPIRAL Tropical Bowl showcases the top college football seniors to NFL scouts and general managers who travel from around the country to the event. The weekend is focused on scouting, teaching and football. The inaugural 2016 game was held at FIU North Stadium and the 2017 SPIRAL Tropical Bowl, in cooperation with the city of Daytona Beach, moved to Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium and has since returned. The SPIRAL Tropical Bowl has partnered with the Daytona Beach Resort & Conference Center as the main host hotel for the Tropical Bowl Weekend. The organizing company, East Preps LLC., is responsible for several high-end college football all-star games at FIU since 2013 and the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl has featured 70-plus NFL Scouts and 26-plus NFL Teams. Over 110 SPIRAL Tropical Bowl alumni have gone on to the NFL since its inception in 2016.
