SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Daniel Bernal and Gabbi Jennings have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runners of the week, respectively, for competition that took place in Spartanburg from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.

Bernal, a sophomore, led the Paladins to a first-place finish at the Eye Opener Invitational on Friday with a time of 25:36 in the 8k race, winning by a 10-second margin. As a team, Furman finished first out of four teams and claimed the top six spots to earn a perfect score.

Jennings, a junior, led Furman to a first-place finish at the Eye Opener Invitational on Friday. The Slidell, Louisiana, native finished first to lead all Paladins with a time of 17:55.3 on the 5k course. Furman claimed seven of the top nine spots.

The Paladins are back in action next Saturday at the Furman Cross Country Classic in Greenville, South Carolina.
