Three from SoCon selected in NLL Draft

PHILADELPHIA – Three former Southern Conference men’s lacrosse student-athletes were selected in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Tuesday, Sept. 25. High Point’s Connor Robinson and Adam Dickson and Jacksonville’s Chase McIntyre were all selected by Canadian teams for the indoor league, which kicks off its season Dec. 1. The three selections were the most for the conference in an NLL draft in the SoCon's brief lacrosse history.

Robinson was taken with the fifth overall pick in the first round by the Saskatchewan Rush, becoming the SoCon's highest-ever lacrosse draftee, while Dickson went with the 10th pick in the second round (23rd overall pick) to the Calgary Roughnecks. Calgary also selected McIntyre, with the sixth pick in the sixth round (69th overall pick).

As a senior, Robinson, led HPU and the Southern Conference with 36 goals. He was selected to the All-SoCon second team. The New Westminster, British Columbia, native led the conference in hat tricks at seven, while setting a program record with six straight hat tricks during the 2018 season.

Dickson finished his senior campaign with six goals and an assist for the Purple & White after spending his first three seasons at Ohio Valley University (OVU). He was selected as a member of the 2016 All-GMAC second team in 2016.The White Rock, British Columbia, native recorded 107 points (74 goals and 33 assists) in his three years at OVU.

Robinson and Dickson join Dan Lomas and Dallas Bridle as High Point representatives in the NLL. Bridle was taken in the third round of the 2017 draft, while Lomas was selected in the second round with the 16th overall selection in 2016.

Between the NLL and Major League Lacrosse, High Point has now had 10 student-athletes make it to the professional level.

One of five team captains in 2018, McIntyre totaled 52 points on 40 goals and 12 assists during his career as a Dolphin. He also scored six extra-man goals, picked up 36 ground balls and caused four turnovers. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native and Hill Academy product posted 22 points as a sophomore in 2015, including the game-winner against Michigan on March 3.

He joins 2013 JU alum Cameron Mann as the only other Dolphin to be drafted into the NLL. The Dolphins' most prolific scorer, Mann was selected 32nd overall by the Colorado Mammoth in the 2013 Entry Draft.

The Entry Draft featured the inaugural draft classes for both expansion teams – the Philadelphia Wings and the San Diego Seals – who will begin play during the 2018-19 season.
