SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer midfielder Abigail Zoeller has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 10-16.
Mercer went 1-0-1 on the week in two road contests. The Bears dominated Alabama State in a 7-0 rout and tied Kennesaw State 1-1. The Independence, Kentucky native assisted on three of Mercer’s seven goals in the win in Montgomery. At Kennesaw State, Zoeller netted the equalizer in the 81st minute as Mercer finished the non-conference slate with a 5-3-2 mark.
Zoeller, a sophomore, leads the conference in shots (44) and shots per game (4.40) and has 17 points, tied for a conference high. She is second among Southern Conference players with five assists (0.50 per game), tied for second with six goals scored, third with 1.70 points per game and fourth with 0.60 goals per game.
Mercer remains on the road for the next two contests. The Bears begin conference play Friday, Sept. 21 at Chattanooga and then take on Samford in Birmingham two days later.
