SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer forward Trevor Martineau has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Aug. 24-26 after he registered two goals and one assist in his opening weekend with the Bears as a true freshman.
Martineau was also named to the Mike Gibbs Memorial Tournament All-Tournament Team and was named the Offensive MVP for the tournament.
Mercer went 2-0-0 on the weekend, picking up a 2-1 win over North Florida in the opener and picking up a second win, 4-0, against Jacksonville two days later. The freshman from McKinney, Texas, came off the bench in the Bears’ game against North Florida, netting the equalizing for his first collegiate tally. In the Bears’ second game of the weekend, Martineau scored their second goal of the outing and then assisted on the next goal for Mercer for a 3-0 lead.
Mercer is back in action against Winthrop on Aug. 31 and Gardner-Webb on Sept. 2.
