SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG softball player Jasmine Palmer has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held April 25 to May 1, the league office announced Wednesday.
The junior helped UNCG go 3-1 last week, including a series win over ACC foe NC State. Palmer started the week with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate against Campbell as the Spartans earned a 6-5 win in nine innings. The Candler, North Carolina, native then recorded two RBIs, a double and one run scored in a 5-4 win over NC State on April 28. Palmer also recorded a hit in the second game of the doubleheader against NC State before the Spartans fell 8-1. The second baseman rounded out the week with a monster offensive effort in the series finale against the Wolfpack, going 2-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBIs as the Spartans cruised to a 24-2 win. Palmer currently ranks first in the conference with 44 runs scored and fifth with a .335 batting average.
Palmer, who is a communication studies major, has a 4.0 GPA.
UNCG returns to action on May 5 with a doubleheader at Samford before wrapping up the regular season on May 6 at 2 p.m.
