SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Roos van der Zwaan has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 27 to April 2, the conference announced Tuesday. The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in conference play and 10-7 overall after picking up two home wins last week.

The Rijswijk, Netherlands, native started the week with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Western Carolina’s Jordyn King at the No. 1 singles spot on March 30. The following day, van der Zwaan earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nancy Bridges of UNCG to improve her record at the No. 1 singles spot to 9-8 this season.

In doubles action, the senior paired with Ellie Gerlach to go 2-0 at the No. 1 doubles position. The pair started the week with a 6-2 win over Western Carolina’s Jordan Strickland and Savannah Taranto and then took a 6-0 win over Blaine Boaz and Corinne Blythe of UNCG. The two wins improved the duo’s record to 11-2 this year.

Samford returns to action on April 5 with a home match against Alabama State at 3 p.m.
