Men's Lacrosse Southern Conference

SoCon men's lacrosse player of the week honors announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman midfielder William Holcomb and High Point goalkeeper Tim Troutner Jr. have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from April 17-23. The awards are selected by the league office.

Furman’s Holcomb matched a SoCon record and set a pair of school records in the Paladins’ 12-11 loss to Jacksonville on Saturday. The junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, scored seven goals and recorded two assists, setting school records for single-game goals and points and matching the league mark for goals. The nine points is tied for second in the SoCon’s single-game list. After managing just a goal and an assist in the first half, Holcomb notched hat tricks in each of the next two quarters and assisted on Furman’s goal with just 28 seconds left in the contest that made it a one-score game. Holcomb also added a pair of ground balls on the day.

High Point’s Troutner made nine saves and allowed just six goals in the Panthers’ 7-6 win at Air Force in snowy, windy conditions on Saturday. The junior from Annapolis, Virginia, faced 37 shots on the afternoon and turned in a save percentage of .600. The nine saves pushed Troutner’s career total to 440, the top mark in the SoCon’s brief lacrosse history. Troutner also collected a pair of ground balls in the contest.

Furman (3-9, 3-3 SoCon) takes on Bellarmine (4-8, 2-4) to end the regular season on Saturday, needing a win and an Air Force loss to clinch a spot in the SoCon Men’s Lacrosse Championship. High Point (5-7, 5-1), which has clinched its spot in the tournament, has at least a share of the regular-season SoCon title on the line when the Panthers host Mercer (4-9, 2-4) on Saturday.

Other offensive nominees: Trey Lervick (Air Force), James Whiteford (Bellarmine), Connor Robinson (High Point), Hunter Forbes (Jacksonville), Scott Baird (Mercer), Teddy Hatfield (Richmond) and John O’Donnell (VMI).

Other defensive nominees: Vince Lombardi (Air Force), Eric Rubak (Bellarmine), Ryan Beville (Jacksonville) and Blake Goodman (Richmond).
