Women's Tennis Semifinals Roundup

Chattanooga, Tenn. –

Tournament Central

No. 1 Furman 4, No. 4 Chattanooga

No. 2 ETSU 4, No. 3 Samford 0

- Sunday’s championship match will be a rematch of the 2017 championship between Furman and ETSU and just the second ever meeting between the two programs in the title match. Furman took last year’s match 4-2 for its 17th tournament title.

- ETSU and Furman’s men’s and women’s teams will both play in the championship matches on Sunday. The men’s and women’s championship matches have featured the same schools just once before, back in 2000. No. 5 Chattanooga defeated No. 2 Furman 4-3 on the men’s side while No. 1 Furman downed No. 3 Chattanooga 5-0 in the women’s final.

-  ETSU advanced to the championship match for the fourth consecutive year with a 4-0 win over Samford Saturday. The Bucs are 1-2 in their last three championship match appearances. ETSU is seeking its second overall tournament championship and its second in the last three years.

- The Bucs’ last three semifinals wins have been by a 4-0 score. ETSU has made it to the championship match every year since rejoining the SoCon.

- Furman will be looking for back-to-back tournament titles, a feat that has not been accomplished since College of Charleston won five straight from 2009 to 2013.

- Should Furman win both the regular season championship and the tournament title, they would become the third school in the last six years to win both (College of Charleston - 2013, Samford - 2015 and Furman - 2017).

- For the second consecutive year, both semifinal winners advanced with 4-0 wins.

-The Paladins won the regular season matchup with ETSU 4-3 in Greenville, South Carolina.

-Sunday’s winner will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship.

- Sunday's championship will be played indoors at McCallie School due to rain.
