HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point attackman Asher Nolting was rated as the No. 2 freshman in the nation in Inside Lacrosse's Midseason DI Freshman Rankings on Thursday, while Bellarmine goalkeeper John Hulsman was rated No. 8 and Jacksonville defender Dixon Smith was No. 21.
HPU's Nolting leads all freshman nationally with 4.91 points and 2.55 assists per outing. Already boasting 26 goals and 28 assists, the Colorado native is on the verge of becoming the first Panther and Southern Conference student-athlete to produce a 30-goal, 30-assist campaign. He was the league's Offensive Player of the Month in March.
This makes two straight Thursdays on which Nolting has earned a prestigious national honor. Just a week ago, the attackman was added to the Tewaaraton Watch List.
Bellarmine's Hulsman sports a 9.02 goals against average and a league-best .600 save percentage. He has made 96 saves in 426 minutes of action over seven games, averaging a SoCon-best 13.71 saves per game. He is the reigning SoCon Defensive Player of the Week.
Jacksonville's Smith has started 10 of the Dolphins' 11 games so far, picking up 25 ground balls and causing 20 turnovers. He also has an assist on the year. He was the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 27.
