SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Ioanna Markesini has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 20-26, the conference announced Tuesday. The Bucs improved to 3-1 in conference play and ran their current win streak to four after going 2-0 last week.

The Athens, Greece, native finished the week 2-0 in singles play, splitting time at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Markesini started with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Jordyn King of Western Carolina as the Bucs earned a 7-0 conference win. The senior then earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over VCU’s Anna Rasmussen at the No. 1 singles spot, improving her singles record to 10-5 this season.

In doubles play, Markesini paired with Alory Pereira at the No. 1 doubles position to go 2-0. The duo’s first win came against Western Carolina’s Savannah Taranto and Jordan Strickland, 6-4. Markesini and Pereira then wrapped up their perfect week with a 6-4 win over Rasmussen and Melissa Ifidzhen of VCU, improving their overall record to 8-9 this season.

ETSU returns to action on March 31 when it welcomes SoCon foe Wofford for a 2 p.m. match.
