SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG softball player Jordan Gontram has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held March 14-20, the league office announced Wednesday.

The sophomore batted .462 as UNCG went 6-0 last week, including a perfect 5-0 record in the Spartan Classic. A native of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Gontram began the week going 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBIs in a 10-1 win over North Carolina A&T on Thursday. In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader with Canisius, the outfielder belted a two-run home run to help lift the Spartans to a 7-4 win. For the week, Gontram had a .611 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage, totaling six RBIs and six runs scored.

Majoring in business administration, Gontram holds a 4.0 grade point average. 

UNCG opens a three-game series with Furman on Saturday at 1 p.m.
