Furman's Kozarov named player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Katarina Kozarov has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 13-19, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Novi Sad, Serbia, native earned two wins at the No. 1 singles spot last week, beginning with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kristin Rehse of Georgia State on March 17 that helped Furman pick up the 4-3 win. Kozarov then earned a win over Katie Sidor of Mercer 6-4, 6-4 to help the Paladins pick up the 6-1 win and improve to 1-0 in conference play.

In doubles action, the sophomore went 2-0 at flight two doubles with partner Gabby Rodriguez. The pair earned its first win of the week 6-3 over Rehse and Damira Muminovic of Georgia State, helping Furman earn the doubles point in a close nonconference match. The duo then defeated Christie Cesarini and Celine Schepers of Mercer, 6-4, on March 18.

Furman returns to the court for a doubleheader on March 21 as it welcomes in-state rival Wofford and Brenau. The SoCon match against Wofford is set to begin at 3 p.m. followed by the Brenau match at 6:30 p.m.
