INDIANAPOLIS – Three Southern Conference track and field student-athletes were selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held March 9 and 10 in College Station, Texas, and hosted by Texas A&M.

ETSU’s Ben Johnson and Samford’s Tray Oates and Selena Popp were among the participants announced by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee.

Johnson won the SoCon title in the weight throw Sunday with a meet-record heave of 21.99 meters and is the 13 seed in the NCAA field.

Oates, who became the first-ever four-time indoor SoCon champion in the pole vault on Sunday, is the third seed in the event thanks to his effort of 5.63 meters at the USATF Indoor National Championships.

Popp is the 16 seed in the pentathlon, an event she won with a meet-record score of 4,118 points Saturday. She was named the Female Most Outstanding Athlete and the Female Most Outstanding Field Performer for her efforts over the weekend at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lexington, Virginia.
