Carnahan named Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman women’s indoor track and field athlete Savannah Carnahan has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Feb. 21-27, the league office announced Wednesday.

The sophomore from Cumming, Georgia, won the 5000-meter title at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships at VMI last weekend. Carnahan posted a time of 16:24.87, which is both a conference and facility record. Carnahan’s performance helped the Furman women to its best finish ever, finishing third overall with 107 points.
 
Carnahan, who won the award on Jan. 24, is majoring in applied mathematics and currently holds a 3.92 grade point average. 

The Paladins will begin their 2018 outdoor track and field season on March 30, competing in the Raleigh Relays.
