SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Connor Thompson has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 20-26, the conference announced Tuesday.
Thompson went 1-1 in singles and doubles competition last week against SoCon foe ETSU as the Spartans fell 6-1 in their conference opener.
Playing in the No. 1 singles spot, Thompson defeated nationally ranked Robert Herrera 6-4, 6-1 to claim UNCG’s only point in the loss. The win improved the senior’s record to 4-3 this season. In doubles action, Thompson paired with Ian Melnik at the No. 1 spot as the duo fell 6-3 to Juan Lugo and Tasei Miyamoto, dropping their record to 3-4 this year.
UNCG returns to the court on March 12 with a conference match against Samford at 1 p.m.
