SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Chad Pyke has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition held Feb. 14-20, the league office announced Wednesday.
A senior from McDonough, Georgia, Pyke helped Chattanooga defeat Campbell 27-6 with a victory over Quentin Perez on Saturday. Wrestling at 165 pounds, Pyke scored an 11-3 major decision-victory, handing Perez his first SoCon dual loss of the season. Pyke, who was ranked No. 32 in his weight class by the NCAA coaches’ panel, is 19-9 on the season and 6-1 in SoCon duals.
With the win over Campbell, Chattanooga finished second (6-1) to Appalachian State (7-0) in the SoCon regular-season standings.
The Southern Conference Wrestling Championship, hosted by The Citadel, begins on Saturday, March 3.
