SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford guard Fletcher Magee has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Feb. 13-19 after averaging 33 points in a pair of conference road wins. The award is selected by the league office.
Magee scored a game-high 21 points in the Terriers’ 84-69 win at Western Carolina on Thursday, hitting five 3-pointers in the contest to claim sole possession of Wofford’s career record in that category, breaking a tie with Karl Cochran, who hit 312 from 2011-15. He also surpassed his own school record for single-season 3s, finishing the contest with 114 on the year.
Two days later, the junior from Orlando, Florida, scored a career-high and school Division I-record 45 points in a 74-64 win at Chattanooga. Magee drained a career-best 11 3-pointers, tying the school record and the second-best single-game mark in SoCon history. The SoCon’s career free-throw percentage leader, Magee did not attempt a free throw en route to his 45 points.
In extending his school 3-point records, Magee now sits fourth in SoCon history in career made 3s (328) and sixth on the single-season list (125). Magee leads DI this season in made 3-pointers and made 3s per game (4.46). He has also scored in double figures in 73 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak in DI, and has made at least one 3 in 46 straight.
The award is the third of the season for Magee and the fifth of his career. He is the first SoCon player to claim three weekly awards in the same season since Western Carolina’s James Sinclair and Chattanooga’s Casey Jones both did so in 2014-15.
Wofford (19-9, 10-5 SoCon) entertains second-place UNCG (21-7, 12-3) Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Terriers enter the contest seeking their first 20-win season since 2014-15.
