CHICAGO – Eleven Southern Conference football student-athletes earned spots on the STATS FCS All-America teams, announced Tuesday. The SoCon was one of just four leagues to have double-digit selections.
Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges is one of three finalists for the Walter Payton Award, given annually to the top offensive player in the FCS. The award will be announced Jan. 4 in Frisco, Texas, and the order of finish will determine whether Hodges is a first-, second- or third-team All-American.
ETSU lineman Matt Pyke, the SoCon’s Jacobs Blocking Award winner this year, is a first-team selection on offense, while SoCon Defensive Player of the Year Isaiah Mack, a lineman for Chattanooga, earned a first-team spot on defense.
Wofford’s Andre Stoddard was the second-team fullback, while Samford defensive lineman Ahmad Gooden, ETSU defensive back Tyree Robinson and Western Carolina quarterback Tyrie Adams (at all-purpose) were also second-team picks.
Samford wide receiver Kelvin McKnight, Wofford defensive lineman Miles Brown, ETSU defensive lineman Nasir Player and Citadel long snapper Patrick Keefe were third-team selections.
