KANSAS CITY, Mo.- UNCG’s Leeroy Maguruashe and Furman’s Laurence Wyke were named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Men’s NCAA Division 1 Scholar All-America Team, United Soccer Coaches announced on Tuesday. Both were honored as second team members.   

Maguruashe currently holds a 3.38 grade point average while majoring in Information Systems and Supply Chain Management. The senior ended the season eighth in the league in shots per game (2.16) and seventh in the league in shots (41). He was named second team all-conference and was named SoCon Player of the Week Sept. 25. This is his first time being named to the Scholar All-America team.

Wyke was named to the second team for the second straight season. The Bolton, England, native, helped Furman claim its third Southern Conference Tournament title in the last five seasons while earning first team all-league accolades. He totaled seven goals this season, including five game-winners, as well as added one assist. The midfielder currently holds a 3.56 grade point average in communications.

Wyke and Maguruashe were both named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region second and third team, respectively, as well as named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team, earlier this month.

Student-athletes receiving the Scholar All-America recognition must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better, throughout their career, have started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contributed to their team. They also must be nominated by the head coach of current College Services member institution and be a junior or above in academic standing, and if a transfer student, in their second year at the institution.
