KANSAS CITY, Mo.- UNCG’s Leeroy Maguruashe, Furman’s Laurence Wyke and Mercer’s Roberto Arteaga were named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division 1 Men’s Scholar All-South Region first and second teams.
Maguruashe was named to the USC Scholar All-South Region First Team. The Milton Keynes, England, native currently holds a 3.38 grade point average while majoring in Information Systems and Supply Chain Management. The senior ended the season eighth in the league in shots per game (2.16) and seventh in the league in shots (41). He was named second team all-conference and was named SoCon Player of the Week Sept. 25.
Laurence Wyke joins Maguruashe as a first team selection. The senior communications major from Bolton, England, currently holds a 3.56 grade point average. He helped Furman claim its third Southern Conference tournament title in the last five seasons. Wyke accumulated seven goals including five match winners and one assist on the season and was named first team all-conference, first-team all-tournament and was named the 2018 Southern Conference tournament most outstanding player.
Arteaga, named to the USC Scholar All-South Region second team, currently holds a 3.38 grade point average and is majoring in marketing. He is the 12th player during head coach Brad Ruzzo’s 11-year tenure to be recognized with USC Scholar All-South Region honors. The Jonesboro, Georgia, native finished ranked sixth in the conference in total points (16), while tying fellow teammate Leo Toldeo Jr. for first in the league in assists with eight. His four goals and eight assists this season were career highs and was named to the 2018 SoCon First Team All-Conference.
Wyke and Maguruashe were both named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region second and third team, respectively, earlier this month.
Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-Region recognition at the NCAA Division 1 level must hold a 3.30 grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games with significant contribution and be a junior or above in academic standing.
