SoCon, Nexstar partner for basketball broadcast package

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Nexstar Media Group, spearheaded by WYCW (CW62) in the Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville markets, and the Southern Conference announced Wednesday that they will partner to broadcast 17 SoCon basketball games this season throughout the league’s six-state footprint through a network of Nexstar commercial television stations.

The broadcast package will include 10 regular-season men’s games, with one airing each Saturday in league play beginning Dec. 29. The deal also includes all four quarterfinal games and both semifinals of the men’s portion of the Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championships presented by General Shale, as well as the women’s title game. All of the games in the package will also air concurrently on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ and all 10 league schools will be featured at some point during the season.

“We’re very pleased with this agreement and thank Mark Higgins, James Crout and everyone at WYCW for their work on this,” Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino said. “We think it can be a valuable addition to our broadcast efforts.”

Pete Yanity will provide play-by-play and Dean Keener will serve as analyst for the regular-season broadcasts. A full broadcast schedule will be available soon.

The SoCon basketball season gets under way Nov. 6, with nine men’s teams and four women’s teams in action.
