SoCon announces women's soccer player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford goalkeeper Stephanie Westaway has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 24-30.

Samford ran its conference unbeaten streak to 20 games with shutout wins at Furman, 1-0, and Wofford, 2-0. The Cornelius, North Carolina, native played nearly every minute in goal for the Bulldogs and had a perfect save percentage. Westaway, a sophomore, faced 21 shots and recorded five saves in the wins.

In conference contests, Westaway is third with a 0.48 goals against average and fourth with an .867 save percentage.

After playing the last two contests on the road, Samford returns home to host ETSU on Friday, Oct. 5, and Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 7.

Also nominated: Devyn Nyhart (The Citadel), Kellsey Weaver (Furman), Abigail Zoeller (Mercer), Cienna Rideout (UNCG) and Ashton Shields (Chattanooga).
