Roberts named student-athlete of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Furman’s quarterback Harris Roberts has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Oct. 10-16.

The Cummings, Georgia, native accounted for all five touchdowns in Furman’s 34-14 win over Wofford. He completed 16 of 19 passes for 235 yards, three touchdowns and rushed 14 times for two touchdowns in the win that snapped Furman’s four-game series losing skid to the Terriers. He helped headline a Paladin offense that totaled 34 points and 365 total yards against a Wofford defense that entered the game ranked first in the SoCon and ninth in FCS scoring defense and first in the FCS and sixth nationally in total defense. The Paladins’ 34 points were the most registered against Wofford by a SoCon team since late in the 2015 season.

The quarterback was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named as both a College Football Performance Awards and STATS FCS honorable mention national player of the week this week.

A pre-engineering major at Furman, he is currently enrolled at Clemson as part of Furman’s dual-degree engineering program, which will award him a pre-engineering degree from Furman and a mechanical engineering degree from Clemson, when completed. He currently holds at 3.66 grade point average.

The Paladins are set to continue conference play against Samford this Saturday, October 20.
