SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU forward Eleonora Goldoni has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 8-14.
ETSU went 2-0 on the week with a 3-1 victory over VMI and a 2-1 win against UNCG, which entered the match unbeaten in conference play. The native of Ferrara, Italy, had an assist in the win over the Keydets and scored both goals in the win over the Spartans to record five points on the week. Goldoni, a senior, scored the first goal of the match against UNCG before the Spartans netted the equalizer in the 58th minute. With under 10 minutes left in the contest, Goldoni was fouled inside the box, allowing her take and make a penalty kick that put the Bucs back on top en route to the win on senior day. In the win over the Spartans, she tied ETSU’s career goals record (35) and moved into second place in career points (79).
In conference play, Goldoni is second in shots (27) and shots per game (3.86) and fourth in points (10), points per game (1.43), goals (4) and goals per game (0.57).
The Bucs sit at 7-9 on the season and 5-2 in conference play heading into the final two conference matches of the regular season. ETSU hits the road for both, facing Mercer on Oct. 19 and concluding the regular season at The Citadel on Oct. 21.
Also nominated: Virginia Poe (Furman), Payton Schurr (Mercer), Stephanie Westaway (Samford), Jacquelyn Gnassi (Western Carolina) and Katie Gilligan (Wofford).
