App State to host 2019, 2020 Wrestling Championships

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a vote of the league’s wrestling members, Appalachian State has been awarded the right to host the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Southern Conference Wrestling Championships.

The Mountaineers will host the tournaments at their Holmes Convocation Center. Appalachian State has hosted the championship seven previous times, with the last coming in 2011. The Mountaineers have never hosted in consecutive years.

The 2019 edition of the tournament will take place Sunday, March 10, and the 2020 championship will be contested Sunday, March 8.

The 2019 championship will feature seven teams, as associate member SIUE is departing the league after this season. Presbyterian, which recently announced that it is launching a program, will join the SoCon for the 2019-20 season, bringing the membership back to eight for the 2020 tournament.

The 2018 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship is slated to take place at The Citadel’s McAlister Field House in Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday, March 3.
