SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The sites for three future Southern Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championships have been determined by a vote of the league’s eight men’s lacrosse institutions. High Point University has been awarded hosting duties for the 2019 and 2020 tournaments, while the University of Richmond will host in 2021.
Full SoCon members Furman, Mercer and VMI and associate members Air Force, Bellarmine, High Point, Jacksonville and Richmond comprise the eight-team league. The SoCon Men’s Lacrosse Championship features the top four seeds, with semifinals on Thursday and the championship final on Saturday.
High Point’s Vert Stadium will serve as host of the tournament for the first time in 2019. The Panthers have qualified for the tournament in two of three years of the league’s existence, winning the inaugural title in 2015 over host Richmond. The 2019 SoCon Men’s Lacrosse Championship will be the first contested somewhere other than Richmond’s Robins Stadium. The tournament will be contested May 2 and 4 in 2019 and April 30 and May 2 in 2020.
After a two-stint in High Point, North Carolina, the tournament will return to Richmond, Virginia, and Robins Stadium on April 29 and May 1, 2021. In addition to hosting the first three tournaments in SoCon history, Richmond will also host the 2018 edition on May 3 and 5. The Spiders have advanced to the title game in each of the first three years of the tournament, also winning the regular season outright in 2015 and sharing the title with Air Force and Furman in 2017.
The 2018 Southern Conference men’s lacrosse season gets under way Thursday, Feb. 1, when Furman hosts Vermont at 6 p.m. Eastern.
