SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer men’s basketball player Desmond Ringer has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Jan. 3-9, the league office announced Wednesday.
Ringer, a redshirt senior from McDonough, Georgia, led Mercer in scoring against Furman on Saturday. Ringer matched his career high with 22 points to go with seven rebounds as the Bears fell to the Paladins 74-71. Ringer has now scored in double figures in three consecutive games.
Ringer, who is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education leadership, holds a 3.9 grade point average.
Mercer remains on the road, traveling to Western Carolina to face the Catamounts on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
