SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman goalkeeper Ben Hale has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 28-Sept. 3 after leading the Paladins to a pair of road wins, including a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Denver University. Hale was also named the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) and Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week as Furman cracked the Top 25 in both polls respectively.
The redshirt freshman totaled 11 saves and two clean sheets against Denver and Air Force. Against Denver, Hale registered four saves, including a one-on-one opportunity in the second half to help send the game to overtime.
Hale, who was named Top Drawer Soccer’s National Player of the Week, followed up that performance with a seven-save outing Sunday against Air Force, in which Furman once again scored a 1-0 victory.
This marks the second straight week that a Furman player has claimed the SoCon Player of the Week award, helping the Paladins to top-25 rankings in the Top Drawer Soccer, College Soccer News and Soccer America polls.
Also nominated: Jonny Sutherland (ETSU), and Will Bagrou (Mercer).
