Western Carolina's Icen named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina goalkeeper Natalia Icen has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 28-Sept. 3 after recording 11 saves in a tie against Elon.

In her first complete game at the collegiate level, the freshman from Marietta, Ga., entered the Catamount record books, placing fifth all-time for most saves in a game. The last time a goalkeeper for Western Carolina recorded 11 saves was back in 2010.

With the game tied at one goal apiece, Icen turned away five shots in the second half and one in overtime to help preserve the 1-1 tie for the Catamounts.

Western Carolina returns to the pitch Thursday, hosting Lipscomb at 7 p.m. (ET).

Also nominated: Tinslee Dilday (The Citadel), Korrie Sauder (Samford) and Hayley Younginer (Wofford).
