SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford’s Catie Cronister and UNCG’s Christina Gregory have been named offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for matches played Aug. 28-Sept. 3, the conference office announced Monday.
Cronister, an outside hitter, tallied 62 kills in four matches for the Terriers. The sophomore finished with an impressive .317 hitting percentage for the week as well as recording 36 digs. Cronister averaged 5.64 kills per set and registered her second double-double of the season at Winthrop on Aug. 29 as she finished with 18 kills and 14 digs. In the Terriers’ weekend opener, Cronister recorded a season-high 28 kills in just three sets, the most in Wofford history in a three-set match. Cronister also hit .423 in the match, a season-high. Named MVP of the Runnin’ Bulldogs Invitational, Cronister leads the conference in kills per set (4.58) and aces per set (0.58). The Chicago, Illinois, native has 10-plus kills in six of the seven matches this season and has helped Wofford to five consecutive wins.
Gregory, a libero, played in 15 sets over the weekend at the Spartans captured their third straight Spartan-Aggie Invitational. Gregory started the week with back-to-back 22-dig games against Charlotte and Presbyterian and then recorded her third double-digit dig game of the week with 18 at North Carolina A&T. The junior finished the week with 70 digs and averaged 4.67 per set despite not playing as a libero in sets against North Carolina A&T and Delaware State. The Louisville, Kentucky, native ranks fourth in the conference with 110 total digs.
