SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Jordan Bostian and Wofford’s Hannah Steelman have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runner of the week, respectively, for competition that took place Sept. 22-24, the league office announced Wednesday.

Bostian, a junior, took seventh in a field of 100 in the men’s four-mile race with a time of 21:02.91. The Mount Ulla, North Carolina, native helped the Catamounts to a second-place finish at the Asheville Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning. Bostian was the only Catamount to finish in the top 10 and one of just three to finish in the top 20. This is the first weekly award of Bostian’s career.

Steelman, who picks up her second consecutive award, finished first out of 93 runners on Saturday at the Asheville Cross Country Invitational as the Terriers’ women’s team took first place. The win marked the freshman’s second straight individual title as she finished the two-mile course in 10:51.21, almost one minute ahead of the next competitor. The Orono, Maine, native was the only freshman to place among the top 24 runners.

Both Western Carolina and Wofford are back in action this Saturday as they participate in the Upstate Invitational. The race will be held at the Milliken Research Center, the site of the 2017 SoCon Cross Country Championships.
