Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman women's soccer team has made a $1,000 donation to the University of North Florida to help with facility damages caused by Hurricane Irma, it was announced on Wednesday by Paladin head coach Andrew Burr.

The Paladins and Ospreys were scheduled to play on September 8, at Stone Stadium, but the match was called off due to UNF's travel issues with the approach of Irma. Burr and his team elected to donate $1,000, the cost to put on a regular season home match at Stone Stadium, to help the University of North Florida community.

"I've known Robin Confer, the head coach at UNF, for many years and we wanted to do whatever we could to help," said Burr, who is in his 13th season as head coach at Furman and ranks as the winningest coach in Southern Conference history. "We have several kids from Florida on our team and everyone recognized the need to help our friends in that state as best we could."

The donation represents the total that Furman spends for medical staff, video streaming staff, security staff and other costs associated with putting on a college soccer match. The Paladins and the Ospreys were scheduled to play each other for the fifth time in the last six seasons before Irma forced the cancellation of this season's contest.

Furman returns to action when it hosts VMI in the Southern Conference opener for both schools on Friday, September 22, at 7 p.m. before entertaining UNCG next Sunday afternoon.
