SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Brandon Hazouri and Western Carolina’s Scott Peretin have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, while ETSU’s Katrina Seymour and Western Carolina’s Hailey Cook claimed honors on the women’s side, the conference office announced Thursday. Selections are made by a group of the league’s track and field coaches and included competition held March 29 through April 4.
Hazouri placed eighth in the 800-meter run at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Florida, with a time of 1:48.32. The senior’s time of 1:48.32 currently ranks first in the event among SoCon competitors. Hazouri currently sits in ninth on the East qualifying list and 11th overall in the NCAA.
Peretin finished second in the hammer throw at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, North Carolina, on Friday with a heave of 186’-8” (56.90m). Peretin’s mark at the VertKlasse Meeting is a career best and conference leader by more than 15 feet. Peretin, a junior, also placed sixth overall in the shot put at the VertKlasse Meeting with a best throw of 49’-11.25” (15.22m), which is also the top SoCon mark in the event.
Seymour, a senior, placed sixth for the Bucs in the 400-meter hurdles at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Florida, last weekend with a time of 58.59 seconds, breaking her own ETSU record in the event. The New Providence, Bahamas, native previously broke the ETSU record at the Bucs’ first outdoor meet of the 2017 season at the Charlotte 49er Classic. Seymour’s time of 58.59 seconds currently ranks first in the SoCon outdoor rankings list and is 16th-best among NCAA Division I competitors.

The senior won the shot put title with a best throw of 48’-10.75” (14.90m), which is the top mark in the conference so far this outdoor season. The Hendersonville, North Carolina, native placed sixth overall in the hammer throw with a best throw of 169’-5” (51.65m), which is also good for the top throw in the SoCon.
