SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG junior Connor Thompson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 27 through April 2. Thompson went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and was 4-0 in doubles with William Albright at No. 1 as the Spartans went 2-2 last week. It is the second time this season Thompson has earned the weekly award after taking home the same honor Feb. 28.
Thompson did not drop a set in singles play last week, winning all four matches in straight sets. He is 13-2 this spring and has now won his last six singles matches in straight sets. The junior is 3-0 in conference matches and ranks second in the SoCon with 13 wins at No. 1 singles this season.
UNCG’s top pair went 4-0 last week with its closest match coming by way of a 7-6 decision over Georgia Southern’s Christian Kerrigan and Dani Casablancas. Thompson and Albright have now won their last seven doubles matches together and are the only pair in the league to be undefeated with at least five decisions this spring.
UNCG (7-9, 2-2 SoCon) returns to action this evening (April 5) when the Spartans host Elon.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s David Biosca, Furman’s Jake Munns, Samford’s Max Rebol, Chattanooga’s Simon Bustamante and Wofford’s Haris Poric.
