ETSU Ends Competition at the VertKlasse Meeting // Results
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The ETSU Track & Field program ended day two of competition at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, North Carolina, on Saturday afternoon with three personal bests recorded.
To start off the day junior Hadyn Borghetti-Metz finished second in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:56.08. Borghetti-Metz was just .08 off the time of the first place finisher from St. Andrews University.
On the women’s side, two personal bests were recorded on the track as junior Tim Easley clinched a personal best time of 15.46 in the 100m hurdles to finish 14th. Sophomore Starr Graham ran a personal best time of 25.35 to finish seventh out of 92 runners in the 200m.
Junior Simeon Roberts rounded out the day for the men on the track placing second in the 800m with a time of 1:54.00. Roberts finished ahead of runners form three Southern Conference foes (Western Carolina, Wofford and UNCG).
In the field at the VertKlasse Meeting, senior Brett Squibbs finished sixth in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 4.92m (16-1 ¾).
The Buccaneers will enjoy a week off before heading to Cullowhee, North Carolina. for the Benyon Sports Catamount Classic, April 14-15.
UNCG's Hodge Grabs 10th in 800m on Day Two of Vertklasse Meeting // Results
HIGH POINT, N.C. – On Saturday, UNCG track & field wrapped up competition at the Vertklasse Meeting, hosted at Dick Vert Stadium on the campus of High Point University.
Jonathan Hodge and Jeffrey Beane were the high finisher of the day, taking 10th in the 800 meters after crossing the finish line in 1:58.97.
In the women’s 100 meters participation race, Alexis Rice took 31st in 13.14, while Nautica Friday wasn’t far behind in 34th-place after timing in at 13.25.
Katherine Link was tops amongst four top-50 finishers for UNCG in the 400 meters participation, finishing in 1:05.69. Taylor Delaney and Kimberly Shaver were close behind in 46th (1:05.92) and 49th (1:09.95), respectively.
In the men’s 800 meters participation race, Keeton Glenn placed 52nd, finishing with a time of 2:05.03.

Samford's Prengaman Wins High Jump Title at Florida Relays // Florida Relays Results // Texas Relays Results // Stanford Invitational Results
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Samford’s Courtney Prengaman turned in a tremendous leap of 1.73 meters on Saturday to win the championship title in the high jump at the talent-laden 2017 Florida Relays held at historic Percy Beard Track.
Once again, the Florida Relays proved to be one of the preeminent meets in the nation as the multi-day event consisted of the best track and field athletes in the country.
Samford’s Prengaman claimed the title in the high jump Saturday by posting a mark of 1.73 meters. She bested the remaining members of the elite field, which all finished at 1.68 meters.
The Bulldogs’ Selena Popp proved to be one of the five aforementioned second-place finishers in the high jump. Samford and Kennesaw State were the only schools in the event to notch a pair of top-two finishers.
Prengaman, only a junior, turned in the Bulldogs’ best outing of the Florida Relays this weekend.
Samford’s Arsene Guillorel competed in the 10,000-meter run Saturday at the Stanford Invitational and earned a third-place finish in the event. The Bulldogs’ uber-talented long-distance runner posted a time of 28:51.75 in the competition and trailed only Edward Cheserek of Oregon and Robert Brandt of California.
Cheserek and Brandt finished with times of 28:46.48 and 28:48.38, respectively.
Samford’s Keyth Fightmaster competed in the 2017 Texas Relays on Saturday and earned a fifth-place finish in the high jump. Fightmaster, the Bulldogs’ junior standout from Calhoun, Georgia, tallied a height of 2.15 meters on his third attempt of the third progression.
Trey Culver of Texas Tech proved to be the only competitor to achieve a height of 2.24 meters in the event, while USC’s Randall Cunningham and Jeron Robinson (unattached) notched marks of 2.21 meters.
The Samford University track and field team will next be in action this weekend, Friday and Saturday, as the Bulldogs travel down to Auburn, Alabama, for the 2017 War Eagle Classic, which will be held at Auburn University.
Catamounts Wrap Up VertKlasse Meeting // Results
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams picked up 21 top-10 finishes on the final day of the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University Saturday afternoon. The highlight performance came in the women’s 4x100m relay as sophomore Mia Little, senior Tiffani Lewis, sophomore Dasha Arnaut and freshman Jazmine Gooden teamed up to round the track in just 46.14 to top the entire 14 team field.
Arnaut, a participant on the winning 4x100m relay team, also had an impressive individual performance as she took second in the 400m hurdles with a blazing time of 59.56.
Junior Dakota Lamont was WCU’s top male finisher as he took second in the 400m. He rounded the track in 48.26. Teammate and classmate Henry Kiedi finished just behind in third with a time of 48.37. The final top-10 finisher in the event for WCU was newcomer Devaniel Dale who came in sixth after stopping the clock at 49.11.
Lewis, another 4x100m relay team member, finished third in the 200m after crossing the line in 24.50. Gooden, who also ran with Lewis in the relay, finished two spots back in fifth with a time of 24.63. Gooden also picked up a top-10 finish in the 100m hurdles as she clocked in at 14.22 for a fifth place finish.
Freshman Di'Joun Huitt finished third in the men’s triple jump as he touched down at 15.03m. Junior Kevin Hires rounded out the top-10 in 10th as he measured out at 14.13m.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Lingard was the final top-three finisher for the Catamounts as she placed third in the women’s 800m. She rounded the track twice in 2:13.82.
Sophomore Miles Greer placed fourth in the men’s 800m as he turned in a time of 1:54.82 while classmate Caleb Albrecht finished two spots back in sixth at 1:55.17.
Little, the fourth and final member of the winning 4x100m relay team, placed fourth individually in the 100m as she clocked in at 11.95.
Freshman Imani Bennett took fourth in the women’s triple jump as she measured out at 11.87m.
The men’s 4x100m relay team consisting of current Catamount football team member Keion Crossen, Lamont, Dale and Kiedi rounded the track in 42.07 to finish sixth.
Junior Thor Smith topped 4.77m in the men’s pole vault to finish seventh while junior Mateius Brown took seventh in the discus after tossing the element 48.33m.
Sophomore Sally Woerner took eighth in the women’s 400m with a time of 58.02 while sophomore Dylan Andrade took eighth on the men’s side in the 400m hurdles. He rounded the track in 54.43.
The final top-10 performance came in the women’s discus throw as freshman Mahogani Holiday stopped the tape at 40.92m.
The Catamounts will be back in action next weekend as WCU travels to the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University.
Wofford Track and Field Competes At High Point // Results
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Wofford College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed on Friday and Saturday at the ninth-annual VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University. The team set two new school records and had numerous top 20 finishes in the highly competitive meet.
McLeod Dean finished eighth overall in the 100 meters with a time of 12.04, setting a new school record. Amber Lust was 12th in the event at 12.2, which also was better than the previous school record of 12.31 set last year. Lust was also the Terriers’ top finisher in the 200 meters. Dean added a school record in the 400 meters at 57.58 and was sixth overall out of over 60 competitors. Anya Bunao was the top finisher in the 800 meters and finished 1th overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Mary Stewart Wilson led the team in the 1500 meters, Taryn Schoen was the top finisher in the 5,000 meters and Shannon McAndrew was third overall in the 10,000 meters. Sara Jane Hayes was the top Wofford finisher in the 100 meter hurdles and the high jump, while Kasey Widmyer went the farthest in the triple jump and Erin Troyer was the top Terrier in the javelin. The 4x100 relay team was seventh overall and the 4x400 relay team was third out of 16 teams.
For the men, Bosco Bapoupeleh was the first Terrier to finish in the 100 meters at 11.17. Bradford Smith ran the 200 meters in 22.83 and was near a school record in the 400 meters at 50.28. Joe Harbacevich was third overall in the 800 meters at 1:54.06 and Jack Zemp was the top finisher for Wofford in the 1,500 meters. Ethan Epstein was 13th overall in the 5,000 meters and Jonathan Rice was the top Terrier in the 10,000 meters. Conrad Heinrich was the top Wofford finisher in both the 110 meter hurdles and 400 hurdles. Omar Mingo was 16th in the long jump and 18th in the triple jump. Hunter Griffin had the top distance in the shot put for Wofford, while Gaston Hayworth had the top distance in the discus and in the hammer throw. William Stout threw the javelin 37.00 meters. The 4x400 relay was 12th overall.
Over 1,500 athletes competed in the event from 47 different schools, including Wake Forest, Elon, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, Coastal Carolina, North Carolina and Liberty.
The teams will be in action next at the Beyon Sports Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University on April 14 and 15.
