SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU women’s golfer Loy Hee Ying has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held April 5-11, the league office announced Wednesday.
Loy tied for first place out of 83 individual participants at The Brickyard Intercollegiate in Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday, guiding the Bucs to a sixth-place team finish. The sophomore shot a 68 (-4) on the final day of competition, setting both course and tournament records. Her first-place finish is her second of the 2017 season. Additionally, Loy’s performance on Tuesday marks the eighth time in her ETSU career that she shot below 70.
In the classroom, Loy boasts a 3.941 grade point average as a Business major.
The Bucs’ women’s golf team will return to action April 23-25, at the 2017 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the Country Club of Lexington in Lexington, South Carolina. Loy finished tied for eighth in last year’s SoCon championship, which took place at Savannah Quarters in Pooler, Georgia. The General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes that hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and whose sport is currently in-season. Nominees must have also completed at least one full academic year at their respective institutions.
