SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU senior David Biosca has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 3-9. It is the second time this season Biosca has earned the weekly honor. The senior went 4-0 in all competition last week as the Bucs split a pair of matches, dropping a 4-3 decision to UCF before beating UNCW (4-0).

Biosca opened the week by downing UCF’s Korey Lovett (6-3, 1-6, 6-4), who was ranked No. 70 in singles play. The senior from Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain, then cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over UNCW’s Josh Hublitz to run his winning streak to five matches and improve to 12-3 in singles play this spring.

Competing at No. 2 doubles with Miguel Este, Biosca held on for a pair of wins last week as he and Este defeated UCF’s Kovett and Kalman Botd, 7-5, and slipped past UNCW’s Ignasi de Reuda and Agustin Savarino by an identical score. Biosca and Este are now 6-3 together this spring and have won their last three matches.

ETSU (11-7, 6-0 SoCon) returns to action Wednesday (April 12) when the Bucs visit Middle Tennessee.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Furman’s Adam Steryous, Mercer’s Olivier Stuart, UNCG’s Warren Bryan, Samford’s Jake Faundez and Chattanooga’s Simon Bustamante.
