SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior Ellie Gerlach has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 3-9. Gerlach was 4-0 in all competition last week as the Bulldogs picked up a pair of league wins over UNCG (5-2) and Western Carolina (7-0).

The Louisville, Ky., native ran her singles win streak to three after posting a pair of wins last week. Gerlach topped UNCG’s Masey DeMoss in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) and held off Western Carolina’s Jordan Strickland in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 6-2). After splitting time at both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, Gerlach has posted a 6-4 record at the top singles position.

Paired with Grace Jennings at No. 1 doubles, Gerlach came away with two victories last week. Gerlach and Jennings topped UNCG’s DeMoss and Alice Taylor, 6-3, before holding off WCU’s Alexa Webb and Savannah Taranto.

Samford (11-9, 3-3 SoCon) closes out the regular season Saturday (April 15) when the Bulldogs visit Chattanooga (14-5, 4-2 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Marina Guinart, Furman’s Ansley Speaks, Mercer’s Katia Stavroulaki, UNCG’s Nancy Bridges, Chattanooga’s Delaney Edwards and Wofford’s Curran Carver.
