SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Nicholas Guillon has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played Feb. 27 through March 5. Guillon went 4-0 last week as the Bears swept a pair of matches against The Citadel. Mercer posted a 7-0 win in the match that counted towards the league standings, and claimed a 6-1 victory in a non-conference decision.
Guillon played the first match at No. 1 singles and cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Michael Anzalone. Later that day, Guillon moved to No. 2 singles and posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Noah Nawabi to run his singles record to 10-1 this spring. The Draveil, France, native has won eight straight singles matches and is 4-0 at the top singles position.
Paired with Fernando Guardia in doubles play, the team of Guillon and Guardia went 2-0, posting a pair of wins over The Citadel’s Connor Grady and Noah Nawabi. Mercer’s duo topped the Bulldogs, 6-1 in the opening match and claimed a 6-3 decision in the afternoon session.
Mercer (13-2, 1-0 SoCon) returns to action Thursday (March 9) when Mercer visits Jacksonville State.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Furman’s Cameron Green, UNCG’s Marcus Vidgren, Samford’s Justin Ghavami, Chattanooga’s Nic Wilson and Wofford’s Peter Coombs.
