GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman’s Allie Buchalski has been chosen the NCAA Division I Women’s National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced on Tuesday.
Two weeks after doubling up on All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, Buchalski opened up her outdoor season in thrilling fashion at the Raleigh Relays this past weekend.
Buchalski, a junior in outdoor competition from Johns Creek, Ga., dominated in the 5,000m, posting a time of 15:35.55, 33 seconds better than her previous outdoor best in the event. She shattered both the meet record and the Furman school record in the process. Buchalski beat former North Dakota State standout Erin Teschuk – who is now competing as a member of Furman Elite – by 15 seconds.
Buchalski will compete with the Paladins at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., April 7-8.
