Furman's Steryous Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Adam Steryous has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 20-26. Steryous went 4-0 last week as the Paladins picked up a pair of Southern Conference victories, claiming wins over Samford (7-0) and The Citadel (7-0).

With two wins at No. 1 singles last week, Steryous is now 14-1 at the top singles position this spring. The Taylors, S.C., native topped Samford’s Justin Ghavami (6-0, 6-4) and The Citadel’s Michael Anzalone (6-1, 6-1). After dropping his season opener, Steryous has now won 14 consecutive singles matches this spring.

The team of Steryous and Jake Munns has now won its last four matches after picking up a pair of wins last week. Munns and Steryous held off Samford’s Jake Faundez and Eduardo Sanchez, 6-4, and blanked The Citadel’s Willam van Zyl and Noah Nawabi, 6-0.

Furman (12-5, 2-0 SoCon) returns to action this afternoon (March 28) when the Paladins visit the Wofford Terriers (11-7, 1-2 SoCon).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included ETSU’s Wenceslao Albin, Mercer’s Fernando Guardia, UNCG’s Connor Thompson, Samford’s Jake Faundez, Chattanooga’s Nic Wilson and Wofford’s Haris Poric.
